Privacy Policy

Last updated 14 June 2026

This document is a template provided in good faith and should be reviewed by a qualified solicitor before you rely on it. It explains, in plain language, how Zawwijni handles your personal information.

Who we are

Zawwijni is a United Kingdom–based Islamic matrimonial service that helps practising Muslims find a spouse in a halal, family-involved way. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “Zawwijni” refer to the operator of the Zawwijni platform. We are the data controller for the personal information you provide to us. You can reach our team at hello@zawwijni.com.

What information we collect

  • Profile information — your name, gender, date of birth, location, education, profession, level of religiosity, marital history, and the preferences and biography you choose to share for matchmaking.
  • Photos — any images you upload. Photos are reviewed before they become visible and may be shown blurred or privately until you choose to share them.
  • Contact details — your email address and, where you provide one, the contact details of your wali (guardian) so they can be involved in the process.
  • Payment data — subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full card details; Stripe handles card data securely and shares only limited information (such as your subscription status) with us.
  • Technical data — basic information such as your device, browser, and approximate region, used to keep the service secure and working correctly.

How we use your information

We use your information to operate the matrimonial service: to build your profile, to suggest compatible matches based on your stated preferences and religious values, to facilitate introductions with appropriate wali involvement, to verify identity and review photos for safety, and to manage your subscription. We may also send you service-related messages, such as match notifications and account updates.

Wali involvement

Zawwijni is built around halal courtship. Where you provide a wali’s contact details, we may include them in introductions so that conversations take place with family oversight, in line with Islamic guidance. You remain in control of when and how a wali is involved.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share information only with the service providers we need to run Zawwijni — for example Stripe for payments and our hosting and email providers — and only to the extent necessary. Other members see only the profile information you choose to make visible. We may disclose information where required by law.

Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymise your profile and photos within a reasonable period, except where we must retain limited records (for example, transaction records) to meet legal and accounting obligations.

Your rights (UK GDPR)

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access a copy of your data, to correct inaccurate information, to request deletion, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to data portability. You can exercise any of these rights, or withdraw consent, by contacting us. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
